Description
Red meat provides an excellent source of iron which is essential for a growing baby. Could be introduced for 7 months old ones.
Ingredients
250g very lean steak (eye fillet is best if possible)
1 cup of water
Directions
Trim all fat off the steak and cut into small cubes.
Place steak into a shallow pan and cover with the water.
Bring the water to the boil and then reduce to a simmer, put a lid on the pan.
Cook the steak until it is very soft and falls apart when you try to cut it.
Allow the steak to cool then blend. You may need to add a little extra water as you go to create a smooth puree.
TIPS:
Make sure when first starting solids the puree is silky and smooth (you may need to sieve the meat mix initially). As your baby develops you may start to reduce the amount of water added to create thicker purees and puree them less. Don’t be afraid to experiment with combinations with the addition of vegetables such as carrots, peas and spinach. Just add these into the water and cook with the beef before blending. You can also try this with lamb, venison (very lean, all fat removed) or pork. The meat puree can also be frozen into portions that can easily be pulled out of the freezer when needed to save time.
