Description
Lovely birthday's dinner for someone who respect potatoes.
Lithuanian dishes are heavily reliant upon root vegetables (potatoes and beetroot), meat and dairy products, which can all be grown in Lithuania's cold climate. Filling, hearty and meant to keep you warm from the inside, Lithuanian food is certainly something worth trying. Here are lots of traditional Lithuanian dishes that have been passed down from grandparents to grandkids from generation to generation.
Ingredients
3 chicken breasts (marinate to your liking)
1kg potatoes, peeled
2 cups milk
1or 2 egg, optional
1 large onion
Salt to taste
Pepper, freshly grounded
Directions
Place marinated chicken breasts on the bottom of the baking tray.
In a sperate bowl grate potatoes and onion. I have this wonderful Kitchen gadget to grate potatoes. Made in Lithuania, my friends.
Bring milk to a boil and pour over the grated potatoes with a grated onion and mix well. This is done to disperse potato starch through the grated potatoes. Add salt and freshly ground pepper and mix well again.
Pour the mixture over the chicken breasts and bake in a preheated oven at 350F/180C, until the top is well browned.
Cut into squares and serve with bacon and onion sauce and sour cream on top.
