Beef Mince with Bolognese Sauce


Description

One of the most popular of all Italian sauces. Try it yourself and you will never look back to store based ones.

Ingredients

1 onion, finely chopped
1 stalk celery, finely sliced
1 carrot, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
400g beef mince
8 rashers streaky bacon
2 tsp flour
1/2 cup red wine
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 cup beef stock
1 cup tomato juice
400g tin tomatoes in juice
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 sprig thyme
2 tsp dried oregano
1 bay leaf

Directions

Sauté onion, celery, carrot and garlic in olive oil until softened.

Add mince and bacon and fry until meat browns and breaks up into small lumps.

Sprinkle in flour, stir to combine and add wine salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Add stock, tomato juice, tomatoes, tomato paste, thyme, oregano and bay leaf.

Bring to the boil and then simmer for 1 hour.
